Another national demonstration calling for justice in the wake of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder will be held in Sliema on Sunday.

Civil Society Network, which organised the first manifestation in Valletta last Sunday, said it would continue to insist on its demands for the resignation of Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar and Attorney General Peter Grech.

It also insisted that the nomination of their successors should be supported by at least a two-thirds majority of Parliament.

The demonstration starts at 4pm from near Chalet and will head to Amery Street, where speakers will address the crowd. The organisers are again insisting that political party and/or anti-party banners are prohibited.

Civil Society Network co-founder Michael Briguglio said the NGO was adamant to keep up the pressure for its demands to be met, adding that the group was inspired to continue after the positive response it received after last Sunday’s event.

“Many people demanded that we should continue and offered their services as volunteers,” he said.

Dr Briguglio reiterated the call for unity, saying everyone was welcome to attend, however, party leaders or members of Parliament should not walk in front.

The event was being organised “out of love for our country”, Dr Briguglio said, dismissing criticism the demonstrations were motivated by partisan sentiments. He said both the Police Commissioner and the Attorney General should be held accountable for their “shortcomings”, such as their failure to thoroughly investigate the Panama Papers scandal.

The Prime Minister has defended both Mr Cutajar and Dr Grech, arguing that denigrating them would not bring justice in the case of Ms Caruana Galizia.
