Azzjoni Nazzjonali this morning delivered a letter to Italian ambassador Paolo Andrea Trabalza calling on the Italian government not to do anything which could hinder relations between the two countries or which might jeopardise stability in the Mediterranean.

AN backed the government’s position that it was not interested in giving up part of its search and rescue area.

The message had to be given that illegal migration was not just Malta’s problem but the whole EU’s, AN said.

A copy of the letter is also being sent to Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Opposition leader Joseph Muscat.
