In your article 'PL's editor has conflict of interest' (The Sunday Times, January 24), you quoted Finance Minister Tonio Fenech as saying: "Newspapers carry a lot of stories about people in business and government contracts. This puts him in a very difficult position because Dr Mintoff "has access to a lot of confidential information". Mr Fenech further stated that "the problem had already manifested itself in some articles published since Dr Mintoff took over the editorship of the newspaper".

Is Mr Fenech, by any chance, implying that I have divulged confidential information to which I have access to as head of legal services at Malta Enterprise? If so, why doesn't he press criminal charges against me for breach of professional secrecy and the oath of secrecy I have taken in terms of Article 33 of Cap. 325 of the Laws of Malta?

If Mr Fenech fails to do so, I would have every reason to conclude that his intrusion in what has been termed as a "management issue", leaked to your paper, is nothing other than a vindictive act of political victimisation.
