Altaro Software, the developer of backup solutions for home and small and medium-sized businesses and a Microsoft Biz Spark Partner, has appointed Stephen Chetcuti Bonavita vice-president responsible for marketing.

He joins Altaro Software after 12 years at GFI Software.

Mr Chetcuti Bonavita will lead Altaro’s marketing efforts, with particular focus on increasing Altaro’s reach in the virtualisation space, as well as working to improve Altaro’s partner programme. His long career leading marketing for GFI Software will help fuel Altaro’s current growth.

“We’re on track to double our revenue this year with more than 8,000 customers so we are excited that Stephen has decided to join us,” chief executive David Vella said. “His experience will help accelerate this growth even further.”

Mr Chetcuti Bonavita joined GFI in 1999 to handle the company’s online marketing activities. Building on the experience gained in this role, he became the company’s youngest director at 24, when he was appointed director of marketing.

He was responsible for a wide range of worldwide corporate and product marketing functions, while leading Tech Genix, a company specialising in online portals for IT experts, with several leading websites to its name.

Founded in 2009, Altaro Software is a fast-growing developer of user-friendly back-up solutions aimed at SMEs.

Its products, which include Oops Backup, Backup FS and Hyper-V Backup, are available worldwide from Altaro and its network of value-added resellers.

Some of Altaro’s customers include Harvard University, Princeton University, the University of Delaware, the University of Miami, the Swedish Defence Research Agency, the New Zealand Defence Force, the US Geological Survey and Mitsubishi Polyester Film.
