This week's big event, Gozo 1234, organised by Burning Spear, aims to build upon the success of last year's Lejlet Lapsi - Notte Gozitana.

From Thursday to Sunday numerous events will take place in Gozo, highlighting its attractions and characteristics. Events range from sightseeing cultural walks and tours, to sports, agritourism, farming, food, entertainment, exhibitions, children's shows, film shows, TV programmes, a party and a fireworks festival.

Most local councils are collaborating with the organisers to include their villages in the programme.

Visitors will have the opportunity to get first-hand experience of the Gozitan way of life, especially in the countryside, where life is still tranquil and serene.

Activities will take place from early morning until late at night. Particularly tempting will surely be the breakfast at sunrise to be held at 6 a.m. each day where early risers may join night revellers to enjoy breakfast on the Citadel bastions.

A Food and Wine Festival with Music, scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. within the Citadel's environs, also promises to be a crowd-pulling activity as indeed will be the Wine and Dine at St George's parish centre starting at 8 p.m. on the same day, with access to the church's terrace. Both venues provide spectacular views of the night-lit town and the whole of Gozo - two strategic points where one may enjoy the fireworks let off from Gelmus hill.

Throughout the four days all churches, museums and exhibitions will be open to visitors.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, activities will be focused in a particular area starting with Marsalforn, Nadur and Victoria respectively.

Two main stages will be set up at the port and Menqa in Marsalforn where various local and foreign artists will provide entertainment to the accompaniment of fireworks displays by local and Danish factories.

Nadur will host the second evening with particular attractions being the live streaming of Xarabank and a display of mechanical ground fireworks by Maltese and Gozitan factories.

Saturday evening will keep Victoria alive well into the night with a pyrotechnic display by Italian and local companies.

Popular artists and bands will perform live. Gozitan singer Morena, who will represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest next month,, will be performing at Sannat along with other Maltese and foreign singers. The Swedish band Alcazar is one of the main foreign attractions while soprano Lydia Caruana will sing at a gala dinner.

Gozo Channel will be reducing fares between Wednesday and Saturday for all trips departing Ċirkewwa between 1.30 p.m. and midnight. The standard passenger ticket is €1.40 (60c) per person return and the standard car plus driver is €8.35 (Lm3.58) return.

Additional trips will be made on Friday and Saturday night and on Sunday morning from Mġarr at 2.30 and 3.15 a.m. from Ċirkewwa. From Wednesday through to Sunday the afternoon trips will remain at 45 minutes intervals from both Mġarr and Ċirkewwa.

Shuttle bus services will operate between 7 and 10 p.m. from Mġarr to Marsalforn (Thursday), Nadur (Friday) and Victoria (Saturday). A return shuttle will operate from each of these venues on the respective nights between midnight and 2 a.m.
