I must admit, I have never heard of Ivan Pirotta, but when I read his opinion in Talking Point (January 11), I had a chuckle which turned into a good laugh!

I happen to be one of those "naïve, gullible" (his unqualified opinion) parents that he rants on about.

Young Mr Pirotta boasts that he still attends such parties. Good for him, he is not the only young person who attends such happenings. Even my two "babies" (his quote) went to one of these New Year's Eve parties. I must mention that my babies are in their 20s.

Mr Pirotta threw a lot of unqualified opinions into his write-up as well as doing quite a bit of generalisation. One such general, silly comment of his was "I'm sure the parents themselves, in their young age, had tried to get away with a drunken night out by telling their parents it must have been the chicken they had before the party or the food they ate from some dodgy place that had upset them". Could it be that young Mr Pirotta was perhaps describing his carrying ons or maybe his parents' behaviour in their younger days?

I wonder if he watched a recent edition of Xarabank and listened to the comments from the "naïve, gullible" parents on the show?

I also wonder if he has been reading the local papers about the subject of drinking and "spiked" drinks?

I further ask this young man what qualifications he holds, in order to give advice to parents about how they should be bringing up their children and how they should communicate with them.

Maybe, just maybe... he is generalising through his own experience at home!
