The government has set up a task force to take forward the planned reform of the provision of primary health care and community services.

The task force will formulate a strategy and an action plan to follow up the implementation of the measures contained in the National Strategy Report on Social Protection and Social Inclusion 2006.

The NSR was adopted by government and the EU Commission in 2006.

The first major step of the task force will be to draw up a working document that will be used as the basis for both specialised and public consultation, the government said.

Now that the Mater Dei Hospital project has been completed and migration to it is under way, the highest priority is to be afforded to primary health care and community care, it said.

A National Consultation Conference of the matter will be held at the Westin Dragonara Resort, St- Julians on Thursday.
