Keeping illegal immigrants has cost the Armed Forces of Malta the sum of €3,410,402.95 during the first five months of this year.

Answering a Parliamentary question by Chris Cardona (PL), Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said that the sum, under the recurrent expenditure vote, was made up of €579,618.57 in wages; €42,204.76 in upkeep and maintenance; €85,930.83 for water and electricity; €72,423.95 for cleaning materials; €57,628.89 for rations; €2,336,566.77 for meals and accommodation (but not including rent); €197,562.53 for the purchase of supplies; €16,254.15 for services (cesspits, skips, showers among others); and €22,212.50 for telephones.
