Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici informed Labour MP Chris Cardona that 25 illegal immigrants who had absconded from Malta were found in other countries.

Answering another question by the same MP, the minister said that on arrival in Malta, every illegal immigrant is frisked.

He said that last year the following amounts of money were found: US$59,980; €12,684; 300 Libyan Dinars and 3,000 Somali shillings.

The following documents were also found in the immigrants' possession: five UNHCR documents; 13 Somali ID cards and 24 Somali passports; 16 Eritrean ID cards and two Eritrean passports; one Eritrean driving licence; one Togo ID card and one Togo passport; one Mali ID card; one Chad ID card; two Ethiopian ID cards; one Ethiopian driving licence and one Libyan passport.

There were also 88 mobile phones of different makes and 28 SIM cards, but no credit cards were found.
