All vehicles processed online todate will be processed by the Licensing and Testing Directorate by February 27, the ADT said.

It said that the inevitable delays experienced in the registration of vehicles resulted from a considerable increase in the registration of both new and used vehicles imported from abroad with many car importers opting to wait until the change in the tax system, announced by the government late last year, to register their vehicles.

A total of 1,100 vehicles were registered by the Authority between January 12 and 31 in comparison to the 1,013 vehicles registered throughout the whole of January 2008.

The bottleneck being experienced was also a result of the last-minute changes to the new registration tax system and the technical hitches stemming from the need to test the registration system live.
