An Enemalta official this morning admitted in court to being involved in the smart meters tampering scam.

Carmel Vella, 55 of Zejtun, admitted bribery and defrauding Enemalta of some €3,000.

He was remanded in custody pending sentencing next week.

Mr Vella is the second staff member to admit involvement.

On February 14, Paul Pantalleresco, a 55-year-old man from Mqabba, was jailed for two years after he admitted to bribery and tampering some 250 Smart meters.

Ten Enemalta staff members have been suspended while investigations into the scam continue.
