Alternattiva Demokratika called on the government to keep its promise, made three years ago, to embellish the Marsaxlokk promenade.

AD said the promised upgrading did not take place to the detriment of the residents and the businesses in the area.

The area has developed so much that the sewage system is overloaded and during heavy rain there is drainage overflow on the promenade, right in front of residences and restaurants, AD's spokesman on sustainable development and local government, Carmel Cacopardo, said.

This was indicative that the water was flowing into the sewers and not collected in water cisterns as provided for by legislation and planning policy, he added.
