Opposition leader Simon Busuttil urged EPP leaders to act on Libya before it is too late following reports that the terrorist organisation ISIS had taken a second town in the country.

Dr Busuttil was speaking during a meeting of EPP party leaders, held in preparation of the EU Summit.

The Opposition leader said that following Derna, there werereports that ISIS had now taken over the small desert town of Nawfaliya.

“ISIS in Libya means ISIS at our doorstep. Let us act now before it is too late,” he told EPP colleagues.

Dr Busuttil said it was well known that Libya was in a state of anarchy "but we should not allow this neighbouring country to fall under the hold of this terrorist organisation”.

He called on the EPP to put into action its pact on terrorism.

Dr Busuttil also referred to the situation in Greece following the recent election. He said that winning an election at the expense of taxpayers in other euro-zone countries wassimply not on.

“That includes Maltese taxpayers who have already chipped in to help Greece... I am all for solidarity with Greece. But our solidarity with Greece must go hand in hand with responsibility. If the new Government is not prepared to be responsible with our money, then we should tell them thank you but no thank you. And we should say it now,” he said.
