Clayton Galea, 25, of Hamrun was this afternoon jailed for six years and fined €15,000 after being found guilty by a jury of conspiracy to traffic cannabis but not guilty of possession of cannabis.

The sentence was delivered at the end of a three-day trial.

Earlier in the day, Nazzareno Muscat, 39 of Zejtun, who had been co-accused with Galea, was jailed for 10-and-a-half years and fined €25,000 after he pleaded guilty in court on Tuesday.

The two had been accused of possession of over a kilo of cannabis in July 2004 and conspiring to traffic the drug.

The trial is being presided by Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono.
