The official music video of ‘One Life’, the song with which singer Glen Vella will represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf this May, was launched yesterday.

Unlike the past videos of Maltese Eurovision entries, ‘One Life’ does not feature a storyline but features people from all walks of life, of different race and age, dancing to ‘One Life’. “We just wanted to point out diversity and the acceptance of diversity,” song-writer Fleur Balzan told timesofmalta.com .

“There was no choreography we just left the people do what they felt like doing in front of the camera,” said Ms Balzan. The aim was, she said, to keep to the spirit of the song, which essentially is ‘Be Yourself’.

Over 900 people applied to take part in the auditions for the video, out of which only 45 made it to the final take. It was filmed over two days. The song was mastered in London.

The video, which is particularly aimed at international media, has so far received positive feedback but will it increase the chances of a better result in Dusseldorf?

“A video helps but it certainly does not determine the result. That depends on the performance, the song and the singer, but so far we have been getting very positive feedback from abroad,” said Ms Balzan.

Glen Vella’s promotional tour has so far taken him Croatia, Athens and Portugal where his bubbly character is charming audiences : “On one Croatian breakfast show – which is usually very mellow - everybody was laughing and cheering. His character is really coming out,” said Ms Balzan.
