Eco School is a committee with representatives elected from among our school's pupils, teachers, parents, a local council representative, as well as the school cleaner and the gardener, who meet to suggest how to take care of the environment outside and inside the school. Sometimes, Johann Gatt from the Education Department attended our meetings to give us ideas.

During our meetings we discussed various suggestions from pupils and adults to help improve the environment of our school and village and then took action about them. These included:

• Using less paper, mainly by using both sides of each sheet for writing and also during art lessons;

• Giving our home e-mail addresses to the administration office so that we could receive school circulars by e-mail rather than printed on paper;

• Turing off lights and leaving computers on stand-by when we are not in class;

• Not wasting water;

• Decorating the assembly hall, corridors and classes with plants that we grew at home;

• Collecting €1 from each pupil to raise funds for a compost bin;

• Sticking notices around the school and the village urging people not to throw rubbish in the gardens and streets.

We also took part in Clean Up The World campaign by clearing up both the school grounds as well as the Ħlantun area of Safi. We even planted trees at Xrobb l-Għagin.

At our request the local council donated to our school a number of water-saving taps.

The Foundation for Environmental Education and Nature Trust Malta awarded our school the Green Flag - Bronze Award for achieving various targets in environmental management after just two years of our Eco School.
