Walk along any street and you should notice many pipes, where the earth electrodes should be, empty, without a cap and full of rubbish.
Does it cross anyone’s mind that these premises are, in actual fact, without any earth protection at all?
Some time ago, I pointed out to a neighbour that he was doing the right thing to have the earth electrode indoors and not outside and was quite taken back to hear the person who was installing it saying: “Don’t be surprised that it is the people who install them who are stealing them!”
Of course, I have no way of checking this so I cannot say,but the fact that there are so many premises without earth protection is surely dangerous. Just on top of our rod we have the following:
‘Caution: Always check: 1. Earthing system below. 2. Connection of wire with rod. 3. Water rod monthly. 4. Annual check-up.’
