A Bulgarian woman who smuggled about 200 grams of cocaine into Malta in 10 capsules hidden in her private parts was yesterday jailed for six years.

Sofiya Georgieva, 21, who lived in Spain, arrived on March 25, 2010 carrying the drugs which were 39 per cent pure and worth some €14,000.

She told the police that she had conspired with a man, whom she named only as Jaki, to import the drugs and he told her the authorities here turned a blind eye to drug importation.

She further claimed she had to return to Spain as soon as possible because she had a young child there. Mr Justice Lawrence Quintano jailed her after taking into consideration a plea bargain reached with the Attorney General.
