An exhibition organised by Xagħra parish to mark the 40th anniversary since the coronation of the church’s titular statue of Our Lady, Il-Bambina, was inaugurated on August 31 at the village’s Vocations Centre in Giuseppe Rapa Street.

A large number of guests attended the opening, including Gozo Minister Anton Refalo. It was officially opened by former parish priest Mgr Eucharist Sultana and blessed by vice-parish priest Fr Joseph Bajada, who is curator of the exhibition. Xagħra parish priest Mgr Carmelo Refalo delivered the main speech.

In the exhibition, an audiovisual system recounts the events that occurred on September 2, 1973, when the late Gozo bishop Mgr Nikol Cauchi crowned the statue in the main square. Also on display are artefacts and documents that played an important role and culminated in the crowning ceremony.

Visitors have the opportunity to trace all the events and see the main protoganists by means of enlarged pictures and professionally laid out displays that enrich the exhibition experience.
