A litter of wolf pups are believed to be the first of their kind to be born in the UK.

The seven Hudson Bay Wolf pups were born to mother Naira and father Maska and are the newest addition delighting crowds at a Devon wildlife park.

The healthy pups, currently unnamed, are now settling in to their new home at the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park in Ilfracombe. Park director Dawn Gilbert said: “This is a rather large litter for a first time mum. The average litter size is between four and six and not all of them generally survive.” (PA)

Widower wins £13.5m jackpot

A great-grandfather who scooped a £13.5 million Lotto jackpot thought he had won just £25.

Peter Congdon, 67, won the life-changing £13,538,113 after matching all six numbers in last week’s Lotto Quadruple Rollover draw.

Congdon, a widower from Truro in Cornwall, said: “I thought I might have won £25. Then I realised I’d matched six numbers and there was only one jackpot winner so I ran straight down to my daughter’s house and asked her to double-check,” Congdon said, adding: “Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep that night.” (PA)

Postbox display marks 50th year

Plaques are being installed on postboxes across Britain to mark the 50th anniversary of special stamps.

Each of the 50 plaques will feature a stamp connected to the village, town or city, ranging from London and Leeds to Llandudno and Blackpool.

Stamps on the postboxes include images of Winston Churchill, Bagpuss, Dylan Thomas, Robert Burns, the Giant’s Causeway, York Minster and Sherlock Holmes. Over 2,600 special stamps have been included in the programme over the past 50 years, with every new stamp design approved by the Queen before it is issued. (PA)

William Shatner’s bold journey

William Shatner is boldly travelling across the US on a three-wheeled motorbike.

The Star Trek actor is undertaking the cross-country mission to promote his custom machine and raise awareness about the American Legion. He worked with motorcycle builder American Wrench to create the Rivet bike, inspired by the B-17 bomber.

The eight-day journey will start on June 23 outside Chicago and make stops in St Louis; Kansas City, Missouri; Oklahoma City; Amarillo, Texas; Albuquerque; Flagstaff, Arizona; and Las Vegas before arriving in Los Angeles on June 30.

Shatner will be joined on the 2,400-mile ride by members of the American Legion and American Wrench crew. (PA)

Retake reprieve for US students

More than 200 US students who thought they would have to retake their college entrance exams after the papers went missing are relieved to hear they have been found – and were at their school all along.

The exam papers went missing last month at Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia, after 260 students took the test on May 2.

Officials at first blamed delivery company UPS but a Loudoun County schools spokesman now says the box has been found in a shipping area. It was still sealed and handed over immediately to exam administrators. The spokesman said he expects the results to be validated and has apologised to UPS and the students.

Pork trouble for Israeli soldier

A US-born Israeli soldier is in trouble after pigging out during training. The military sentenced the soldier to 11 days in prison for eating a pork sandwich during a break in his commander’s course.

The punishment was replaced with confinement to base after relatives made a stink in the media and a politician wrote to the Defence Minister on his behalf.
