Prince Harry has broken a toe following a minor accident but will still take part in a gruelling charity trek to the South Pole, Kensington Palace has said.

Harry is not thought to be in any great pain but is likely to be taking things easy while the fracture heals.

This winter the prince will race with a team of injured British servicemen and women against US and Commonwealth groups to the South Pole in an expedition organised by the charity Walking With The Wounded.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “He’s fractured his toe but the South Pole trip is very much on.”

It is not known when the royal suffered the break or which foot is injured.

Porn sites blocked 2,500 times

Devon and Cornwall Police officers and staff were blocked from pornographic and gambling websites more than 2,500 times in three months.

An investigation has found the force’s computer systems prevented access to pornography nearly 700 times and gambling sites more than 2,000 times between June and August 2013. No disciplinary action has been taken against any employee in this period.

The force said pop-up adverts on “legitimate” sites were to blame.

The figures, released to the BBC under the Freedom of Information Act, relate to the number of unique users prevented from accessing a site and relate to officers and agency staff contracted by the force.

Lofty liaison

The world’s tallest man has married – and his new bride barely reaches his waist.

At 5ft 8in Merve Dibo is not a particularly short lady, but next to her giant groom Sultan Kosen, who looms at an enormous 8ft 3in, she looks tiny, The Mirror reports.

Sultan, who also holds the Guinness World Record for the biggest hands and feet, said he had given up on his quest to find love until he met Merve.

The gentle giant said: “How unfortunate I could not find a suitable girl of my own size. My fiancée is over 1.75 metres tall, but I believe I’ve found the person for me.”

Dog sets apartment on fire

A dog trying to reach a bag of pet food turned on a cooker and started a fire at an apartment in the Washington city of Wenatchee.

The black Labrador accidentally hit one of the cooker knobs with its paw while its owners were out.

Fire crews were able to revive it with an oxygen mask, but by the time they arrived the fire had caused more than £6,000 damage.

Secret weapon against pirates

Ship security teams are scaring away Somali pirates by blasting out Britney Spears songs.

Hits including Baby One More Time and Oops! I Did It Again represent the Western culture and music the pirates loathe.

Merchant navy officer Rachel Owens, 34, who helps guide super-tankers sailing off the coast of Africa, told The Sun: “As soon as the pirates get a blast of Britney they move on as quickly as they can.

Her songs were chosen by security accompanying tankers because they thought the pirates would hate them most.”

‘Tramp’ schoolboy sent home

An American schoolboy who dressed as a tramp for a drama assignment was so convincing that he fooled school officials – and was thrown out of classes.

Michael Bodomov, 17, had been told: “Create a character and be that person for an entire day.”

“I wore a couple of layers of coats and some sweatpants,” he said, with a pair of fingerless gloves, mismatched shoes and plastic bags for socks.
