Nearly 10 per cent of US employers allow workers to sell their holiday time, according to a survey.

The Virginia-based Society for Human Resource Management found nine per cent of companies allow staff to sell unused holiday time for extra money, while five per cent allow workers to buy additional vacation days through a payroll deduction scheme. And seven per cent let workers donate holiday time into a pool that can be used by colleagues.

It said workers might choose to buy additional days off for the trip of a lifetime or when a family welcomes a new arrival, while employees short of cash can trade their unused days for extra pay. (PA)

Status Quo’s milestone

Rock veterans Status Quo celebrated a new milestone as they released their 100th single.

New track Bula Bula Quo pushes them into three figures almost 46 years after their debut release Pictures Of Matchstick Men.

The group – who temporarily reunited the classic 1970s line-up for a series of shows earlier this year – also released a new album Bula Quo yesterday.

Francis Rossi from the group said: “One hundred singles seems incredible even to me, and I recorded them all.

“When we started out, we would have been happy to survive a couple of years in this business, so to reach this milestone is unbelievable.” (AP)

Man paints crossings

A man is facing vandalism charges after authorities in northern California say he painted a crossing on a street, allegedly telling officials it was needed.

Fifty-two-year-old Anthony Cardenas was arrested in Vallejo and booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of felony vandalism. Solano County Sheriff’s Lt. Brad DeWall says workers spotted Cardenas committing the vandalism at a city junction that already has three crossings.

He said Cardenas also painted lines through the existing crossings. (PA)
