Just by chance, I recently came across TV personality John Bundy singing Pajjiż tal-Mickey Mouse (Mickey Mouse Country). I just could not help having a chuckle. How true the lyrics are and, strangely enough, they just do not date because they still apply to things now.

The issues surrounding the launch of the new bus service has become farcical, with every side blaming the other. What has been overlooked are the thousands of people who, since Sunday, have not been able to travel on a bus.

Living in Senglea, the sight of the new buses is certainly quite an event. In no time, one could say that Arriva managed to make its fleet a rare collector’s item.

There has been a lot of huffing and puffing by the government. Not much has been heard from the opposition and the unions do not seem to know which way to turn.

I repeat, the commuters’ livelihood is at stake. More and more people will be using their own cars if this situation is not resolved soon and that means now. I cannot fathom how naïve Arriva have allowed themselves to be. Hopefully, they have learned a lesson with their recruitment policy.

At the Valletta terminus, surely some temporary provisions can be made to ensure protection to the commuters having to wait for hours on end in conditions that humans should never have to endure.

All those who played a part in this shambles must wake up and deal.
