Reading letters from my friends Alfred Massa and Joseph Farrugia which you published recently about the two Doric columns now at Tarxien cemetery, I think it was four or five years ago that I wrote about these columns which have been lying neglected on the tombs for many years – just like what happened to the Dejma cross which was removed from its original place in Tarxien and dumped at the cemetery and now destroyed.

After many years these two Doric columns were removed from the tombs and erected upright so that, I was told, they would support the roof of a small chapel-like structure to be built in the cemetery.

So in the meantime these columns are in the same circumstances as they were before – first they were lying down and now they are in an upright position and still exposed to the weather.

I agree with Mr Massa and Mr Farrugia that the Doric columns should be moved back to the parish church, where they were originally. Otherwise they will suffer the same fate as that which befell the Dejma cross.
