I refer to the One World write-up on the Baħrija Valley (July 7).

My association would like to bring to the attention of readers that the photograph of the valley that was reproduced, probably from the site of Malta Environment and Planning Authority (in which case the regulator is asked to take note too), is somewhat outdated.

We are therefore providing readers, and possibly also Mepa itself, with a more recent one showing what this protected area looks like today, an area which the write-up correctly describes as having “various protective designations, some also of international significance, which include the following: Natura 2000 Site; Area of Ecological Importance; Site of Scientific Importance; Nature Reserve; Special Area of Conservation of International Importance and as a water body under the EC Water Framework Directive.

“Mepa declared this site as a Tree Protected Area on May 24, in accordance with the provisions of the Trees and Woodlands Protection Regulations (2011) as per Government Notice number 473/11”.
