Tony Drago and Alex Borg chalked up their first win for Malta at the 2011 World Cup after beating host country Thailand 3-2, yesterday.

However, the result left both sides facing elimination.

“It was a 3-2 victory but I’m disappointed it wasn’t at least 4-1. I lost two frames I never should’ve done,” said Drago, who missed a shot at the black that would have given Malta a 4-1 success.

“The two frames I lost have killed me. This result, probably, cost us qualification.”

Australia and China are the favourites to qualify from Group B.

Both countries are unbeaten from two matches while Malta and Thailand have the same record – one win and two losses.

The United Arab Emirates, Malta’s next opponents, are rock bottom with no points from two matches.
