I have never supported the PN but I pity the state it has reduced itself to. This is not a destructive contribution but sincere advice to the party in opposition.
A strong opposition is essential for a democracy.
The financial situation the PN is experiencing is not the party’s main problem. What is really troublesome is its lack of vision due to its leadership structure.
The PN opted to structure itself on a compromise between its internal factions. It has ended up with a liberal deputy leader, a conservative one and Simon Busuttil in the middle not knowing exactly what direction to follow.
The PN must determine its vision. It has to draw up its way forward in its ‘ideas and ideals’. It must convince the electorate that it has a direction which is not equivocal. It has to draw in its stretched legs if it does not want to do the split as the MEP results show.
To do this it must have a leadership set-up which fully supports its revised and clear vision.
