Vodafone Malta is investing €11 million in customer service up to next March, financing projects aimed at improving user experience and adding to the €200 million it has pumped into the telecommunications market since 1989.

The plan is to overhaul its customer relationship management systems to offer “unparalleled” user experience, said Vodafone Malta CEO Balesh Sharma yesterday.

Despite the fact that Malta has over 100 per cent mobile penetration, the telecoms provider believes in room for growth, with trends showing the increasing popularity of data, Mr Sharma said, committed to continue providing the fastest and most reliable nationwide network.

The investment announcement comes in the wake of achievements by the company’s network, which, according to an independent survey, by far surpasses competing operators.

A study by the German research agency P3 Communications has found that Vodafone Malta customers are enjoying the fastest mobile internet experience: in terms of file download performance, Vodafone is five times faster than other mobile radio networks on the island and 10 times faster as regards uploads, the company’s new head of technology, Andrew de la Torre, said.

When it comes to browsing web pages, it is three times faster, while a 99.9-per-cent success rate for data connections and transactions emerged from the trials.

P3 Communications is a leading provider of these benchmarking studies in Europe and testing was carried out in every major locality.

To celebrate these achievements on the network front, Vodafone Malta is setting up an Android Village at the Tigullio car park in St Julians over the weekend, offering a free and fun event for the family. Described as “a three-day mecca of all things android” – the mobile device operating system createdby Google – the event will feature hi-tech gadgets, competitions and prizes, where techies and gamers can try their hand at popular games on screen projections.

Android phones and tablets are also being sold at heavily discounted prices, offering the “cheapest smartphone on the island”.

The Vodafone Android Village opens at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
