Three fighter jets, two French Air Force Mirage 2000 and a RAF Typhoon, made emergency landings in Malta yesterday afternoon after running short of fuel.

The aircraft were involved in operations over Libya.

The Mirages flew to the island in the morning and left in the afternoon while the Typhoon landed at about 2.30 p.m. This is the eighth time French planes have performed emergency landings in Malta, amounting to a total of 14 French planes in all.
