London state schools could save over £18.4 million (€21.7m) a year by slashing their utility costs, according to research.
Carbon reduction specialist Sustain examined public data to calculate the potential savings for schools across the country. Its findings showed that every year state schools in London spend over £90.3m (€106.4m) on energy and water. Nationally, the total annual utilities spend for public-funded educational institutions is over £640m (€754m).
Sustain’s research indicates a country-wide push to drive down energy and water bills in these schools would save £130m (€153m) – enough to spend an extra £19 (€22) a year on each child.
