Some of the food being distributed to needy families is not healthy and other items are not attractive to children, according to an evaluation of the EU scheme.

A call for tenders has now been issued for the purchase of food, Family Minister Michael Farrugia has said in Parliament.

He added that he had also explored the possibility of restarting the distribution before Christmas, but this would not have been approved by the EU.

The distribution will now go ahead in early 2015.
