I hate being a bearer of bad news, but living and working in Valletta and waking up to such deficiencies one cannot but expose the sorry state of the city.

Valletta has been declared the EU Cultural Capital for 2018, based on what will be done and not on the present state of our city.

The photo shows a typical pavement in Valletta. One might think it is not such a big deal, but this pavement is 10 metres from a prominent hotel, 100 metres from the Museum of Fine Arts, 100 metres from the Valletta council offices, four metres from the Office for Consumer Affairs and a few metres from a well-known restaurant.

If this is so bad, can you imagine the state of the residential areas... add a few rats here and there.
