Laine Tutane, the reigning women’s champion at the Royal Malta Golf Club, confirmed her top status recently after a dramatic last shot when she sunk a complex 40-foot chip off the green on the 18th hole to win the Ladies Huawei Championship.

Tutane had an impressive first day gross score of 70, which just missed the women’s course record at Marsa, currently standing at 69.

Watched by a sizeable crowd on both days of the champion-ship, Tutane then scored a gross 85 on the second day, giving her a total of 155 overall to make sure of the Huawei Championship title.

Meanwhile, promising junior golfer Filippa Konig was the runner-up behind Tutane in the final leaderboard after coming in with scores of 77 and 79 for a gross 156.

She was close and only lost by only one point to the eventual winner. Konig will now represent Malta in a junior competition abroad.
