A Transport Malta employee was yesterday charged with being an accomplice in a hold-up during which €60,000 was stolen two years ago.

The 34-year-old from Valletta, who cannot be named by court order, denied the charge.

Police Inspector Michael Mallia told the court that on the day the money was stolen, the man had phoned another man, David Mifsud, to alert him to the fact that the owner of the establishment where he worked had left with the cash.

The hold-up on the owner was allegedly carried out on September 15, 2010, in Naxxar.

Mr Mifsud has since been caught and charged. He is currently in prison on another case.

Lawyers Steve Tonna Lowell and Gianluca Caruana Curran asked for a ban on mention of their client’s name because he would lose his job and because of ongoing investigations. Magistrate Francesco Depasquale granted him bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €10,000.
