Tonio Cini has been unanimously confirmed as president of the Malta Motorsport Federation (MMF) for the next three years.

During the federation’s Annual General Meeting, held at the Radisson Blu Golden Sands Resort, the members also voted in favour of a new structure based on three Council pillars – administrative, sporting and static – to enhance the support to the various sporting disciplines that fall under the auspices of the MMF.

Cini, who has been at the helm since 2008, thanked the MMF members for their backing.

He added that the federation was looking forward to assisting the government’s project to develop a road safety and motorsport facility later this year.

“The MMF strongly believes that this project will be of great benefit to the country as it could tip the €150-million bracket investment,” Cini said in a MMF statement.

“Such facility will educate and train new and experienced drivers in an appropriate road safety facility, thus helping to reduce the number of traffic accidents on our roads.”

Last year, Cini was appointed as member of the FIA ASN Global Development Task Force and was also asked to contribute to the Malta Motor Recreation and Education Park Strategic Committee established by Chris Agius, the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport.

Cini recently represented Malta at the FIA World General Assembly in Doha, Qatar.
