A thief who stole €1,000 from his employer was yesterday spared jail but given a very stern warning by the magistrate that his behaviour would lead nowhere except prison.

Matthew Camilleri, 25, from Ġzira, admitted to taking the cash on Monday from the Kebab Ji Lebanese Cuisine and Grill where he worked. He was caught on CCTV. Magistrate Gabriella Vella heard how the money had been returned before placing him under probation three years and warning him that he was heading nowhere but jail if he did not change his ways.
