Journalists and photographers from The Times have dominated the print sections of the 22nd edition of the Institute of Maltese Journalists awards, which an­nounced the finalists for each section on Monday night.

Reporter Kurt Sansone was nominated for the news, features and sports sections. Christian Peregin was nominated in the news and features sections. Photojournalists Darrin Zammit Lupi and Matthew Mirabelli were both nominated in the news and sports photography sections, while sports reporter Kevin Azzopardi was nominated in the sport journalism category.

Timesofmalta.com cameraman Mark Zammit Cordina was nominated in the broadcast section.

Below is a list of the finalists in each category.

Photojournalism: Jonathan Borg, Matthew Mirabelli and Darrin Zammit Lupi.
Travel journalism: Josianne Camilleri, CVC Media, Paul Zammit Cutajar.
Broadcast news (script): Keith Demicoli, Mario Micallef and Brandon Pisani.
Broadcast features (script): Dione Borg, Biografiji and Simon Vella Gregory.
Broadcast news (film): CVC Media, Xarabank and Mark Zammit Cordina.
Radio journalism: Andrew Azzopardi, Patricia Salamone and Cynthia Zerafa.
Cultural journalism: Dione Borg, CVC Media, Paul Galea/Paul Azzopardi.
Broadcast sports journalism: Lino Bugeja, Keith Demicoli and Christian Micallef/George Micallef.
Sports journalism: Kevin Azzopardi, Joseph Farrugia, Kurt Sansone.
Sports photography: Matthew Mirabelli, Paul Zammit Cutajar and Darrin Zammit Lupi.
E-journalism: Josanne Cassar and Jacques Renè Zammit.
Opinion: Andrew Azzopardi, Michela Spiteri and Jacques Renè Zammit.
Environmental journalism: Lino Bugeja and Alan Deidun.

In all, 69 journalists submitted their work for the awards. The ceremony will be held on May 5, where awards will also be given to a person for an outstanding journalism career (the Gold Award) and for best use of Maltese.

Chairman Malcolm Naudi said no finalist was chosen for a new category Promoting Intercultural Dialogue, since the seven submissions did not reach the necessary criteria.
