The acclaimed male choir Cappella Sanctae Catharinae will be presenting a special Christmas programme that goes beyond the familiar carols and festive songs, to reveal centuries of music and texts from across Europe.
The programme features some of the earliest known Christmas songs from the late-medieval era, such as the Piae Cantiones, and traditional carols from across Europe, all the way to the polyphonic compositions of Palestrina.
The choir will also be accompanied by a brass quartet led by Tancred Grech on the euphonium, which will add to the general atmosphere of festivity.
The concert is free of charge and lasts an hour. The audience is requested to be seated 15 minutes before the beginning of the performance.
The concert will be held today at the church of St Catherine, Valletta, at 11am. The church is currently undergoing some extensive maintenance and restoration works and these concerts are aimed at raising funds through donations.
