Two men yesterday described how they carried out a citizen’s arrest after they spotted a 15-year-old boy trying to steal the rims off a car belonging to one of them.

Daniel Micallef Borg and Jean Rossi testified in the case of the teenager, who cannot be named because of his age. The incident occurred on April 2, 2010 in Naxxar.

The two men told the court they went for a drink and left the car, a Peugeot 106 belonging to Mr Micallef Borg, parked in Baċillier Road. On returning they found the teenager kneeling down next to the car with a man standing behind him.

One of the back wheels had been removed and the two thieves were using a wheel wrench to remove the bolts off the other rims. Upon realising that they had been caught, the boy and the man ran away, the two men testified.

They chased them and caught the boy, who they yesterday recognised in the court room as being the accused.

The case continues.

Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted.

Lawyer Edward Gatt appeared for the teenager.
