A new app for iPhone and iPad promises to make it easier to track how much your take home pay really amounts to and how much you pay in taxes.

With some key non-personal information like the gross annual income and marital status, the Malta Tax Calculator (www.maltataxcalculator.com) will instantly show the net income and give you a breakdown per month, week or on an hourly basis of both the gross and the net income.

“Our aim was to create a simple app, but one which people would find useful,” explained Josef Galea, systems architect at Swipecraft, a brand new Maltese IT company. “Since salary discussions during job interviews usually only refer to the gross amount, we thought that the tax calculator would come in handy for both Maltese people who find it difficult to use the information on the Inland Revenue Department site, and to non-Maltese who are about to start a new job in Malta.”

All data is accurate and conforms to the Inland Revenue Department Tax Bands 2012. Swipecraft is committed to keep the app updated with any changes to the tax bands or tax system. People who have bought the application now will get the updates for free from the app store, according to Mr Galea.

The app is downloadable at a nominal charge and revenues will be forwarded to the Puttinu Cares charity.
