I refer to the letter sent by Mary Grech of Msida entitled ‘Disappointed with council’ (The Sunday Times of Malta, June 5).

I would like to clarify that the educational talks mentioned in Ms Grech’s letter were organised by the Primary Health Care Department in collaboration with Mental Health Services, the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate and the Dietetics Unit at Mater Dei Hospital, and not by Msida local council.

The talks were held at the day centre located at the council’s premises so we thought it would be in the best interest of our residents to issue a copy of the notice and publish it on our notice boards.

The talk on ‘Prevention and management of diabetes’ by Dr Mario Grixti was never given a date. In fact, when Ms Grech called our offices, the information given to her was correct as neither the council’s staff nor the day centre’s staff were informed that this talk was going to be held.

I can assure Ms Grech that Dr Grixti had a welcoming audience as his talk coincided with another talk, which was published on the list, on ‘Maintaining a healthy weight’ by Ms Doriette Agius.

As the talks were both health related Ms Agius and Dr Grixti agreed to give their talks on the same day.
