Startup Weekend, an intense 54-hour event that brings together a global network of passionate leaders and entrepreneurs, will be hosted at SmartCity Malta between June 7 and 9. This not-for-profit event is a weekend-long, hands-on, fun experience where current and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if their startup ideas are viable, while getting the full startup experience themselves.

The event brings together Maltese and foreign developers, graphic designers, marketing and business specialists on a mission to inspire, educate and empower individuals, teams and communities, to build applications, and to develop business concepts in order to launch some great startup companies.

“During the event, budding entrepreneurs will get a fantastic opportunity to network and work together with not only their peers but also the specialists and star entrepreneurs from several countries from the region, who will help them formulate their business model,”said Martin Leonard, one of the Malta Startup Weekend organisers.

To date, over 1,000 Startup Weekends have been held in all major cities of the world spreading over five continents including London, New York, Moscow, Nairobi, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and many others. SmartCity Malta is playing a crucial role in organising this Maltese edition by providing a state-of-the-art infrastructure and business contacts matching international companies and investment capital. Abdullatif AlMulla, CEO of SmartCity®, said: “We are proud to be hosting this event at SmartCity Malta. The partnership is a harmonious one with the Startup Weekend community providing a knowledge support system, and SmartCity Malta providing state-of-the-art infrastructure to the entrepreneurs, helping them launch their startups.

“The winning team will get free business space at SmartCity Malta in one of our ‘Plug & Play’ rooms. These ‘Plug & Play’ units offer a hassle-free launch pad for businesses without the need for heavy initial investments. Spaces are fully fitted-out and ready to move in with pre-installed service connections, equipment and amenities to promptly initiate business operations. In this way, entrepreneurs will be able to focus on what matters – getting down to business, and leaving the support services to us.”
