Beginning with a finale is not the norm, but this is what new local indie act Errormantics have done, except this Finale is their debut single.

“This duo is the result of various jamming sessions,” says vocalist and guitarist Sven Bonnici, formerly of The Freuds and now one half of Errormantics.

The other half is drummer Mauro D’Amato, previously of indie band The Does.

“We had both been struggling with our previous bands, and when we discovered we’re influenced by the same styles, we got together to do something the way we knew how.”

They are adamant in steering away from any particular music tag to describe their style.

“Just think of Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead and Dinosaur Jr all mashed up together and served up through just one guitar and drums.”

Finale was one of the first songs Errormantics ever wrote, but they say it “quickly became one of our favourites, so we decided to record it”. This they did after convincing Emerson Vella of Wombat Audio to work with them on it.

The single is accompanied by a music video, familiar territory to D’Amato, who is a media student.

“We developed an idea for the video that ties in with the title of the song. There isn’t much of a storyline as the idea was to create an ending of a film and set our music to it.”

With the song and video both doing well, Errormantics are following up their support performances with Dolls For Idols and No Snow/No Alps with a gig of their own at Coach and Horses on Saturday.

Entrance is €3. For more information, look up Errormantics on Facebook or log on to www.youtube.com/errormantics to watch the video.
