Golf: Sweden’s Alex Noren claimed an incredible fourth European Tour title in his past 11 events with a stunning final round in the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Noren began the day five shots behind South Korea’s Wang Jeunghun, but carded a closing 63 at Sun City to finish 14 under par, six shots clear of Wang. Ranked 108th in the world, Noren will be inside the top 10 for the first time when the standings are updated today.

Cricket: India captain Virat Kohli re-mained unbeaten on a defiant 49 in a tense final session to deny England victory and claim a draw in the opening test of the five-match series yesterday. England captain Alastair Cook notched up his 30th test hundred and declared his team’s second innings on 260 for three in the second session, to set India an improbable target of 310. Adil Rashid, who picked up four wickets in the first innings, took another three as the hosts were reduced to 71 for four after tea. Kohli then frustrated the touring side with a fifth-wicket stand of 47 with Ravichandran Ashwin.

Mixed Martial Arts: Featherweight champion Conor McGregor capped the UFC’s triumphant return to New York by knocking out Eddie Alvarez to claim the lightweight crown and become the first fighter in the history of the promotion to hold two UFC belts simultaneously. Southpaw McGregor downed Alvarez three times in the opening round. Midway through the second round McGregor unleashed another combination and this time there was no way back for Alvarez as McGregor pounced to finish the fight.
