Wimbledon: Spanish 25th seed Nicolas Almagro has withdrawn from Wimbledon due to injury. The 28-year-old claycourt specialist was named among the seeds on Wednesday and in his absence Canadian 23-year-old Vasek Pospisil is promoted into the top 32. Pospisil becomes the 31st seed, ahead of Russian Dmitry Tursunov, who has lost in the first round in four of the last five years. The Wimbledon referees office announced: “Nicolas Almagro has withdrawn from the gentlemen’s singles due to a foot injury.”

Rugby Union: Manu Tuilagi’s transition to test winger has been shortlived with his reinstatement at centre for England’s third and final test against New Zealand at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton tomorrow. Tuilagi will join his first test centres’ partner Kyle Eastmond in a rejigged combination. Freddie Burns has returned as the starting flyhalf, as expected, after Owen Farrell was ruled out with a knee injury, while Ben Youngs replaces the injured Danny Care to restore the first test halves combination.

Athletics: Olympic 800 metres champion David Rudisha will compete in Great Britain for the first time since his world record run at London 2012 when he races at the Glasgow Grand Prix at Hampden Park next month. The Kenyan, whose commanding victory in one minute 40.91 seconds at the Olympic Stadium was one of the highlights of the Games, will continue his comeback from the knee injury which ruled him out of the 2013 season at the Diamond League event on July 11-12. He will return to the stadium the following week for the Commonwealth Games.

Horse racing: Leading Light, the 10-11 favourite, won a thrilling Gold Cup on Ladies Day at Royal Ascot yesterday. It was a sixth Gold Cup victory for Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien. The winner finished a neck in front of Queen Elizabeth’s horse, 2013 winner Estimate (8-1). Outsider Missunited (40-1) was a short head away in third place. The four-year-old Leading Light, ridden by O’Brien's son Joseph, has only been beaten once since October 2012.
