The current tussle between the Home Affairs Minister and the Ombudsman over the competence to probe into the promotion of senior army officers may drag on and on.

In the end, however, it is the minister who must prevail as his position is backed by a majority in Parliament, which will support him as he is not acting in an overtly unconstitutional manner.
