TENNIS: Top seed Li Na stayed on course to make a successful defence of her Shenzhen Open title as China’s leading player came through a tough quarter-final. The 31-year-old former French Open champion was pushed to three sets by Romanian Monica Niculescu, who had won their only previous match, played in Beijing during 2011. Li edged the decider to earn a 7-5 4-6 6-4 victory over 59th-ranked Niculescu, setting up a semi-final against Germany’s Annika Beck.

ICE HOCKEY: Veteran forward Julie Chu headlined the roster for the US women’s ice hockey team for the Sochi Olympics announced this week. Chu, named to her fourth Winter Games squad, will be one of 11 returning Olympians as the US looks to avenge a loss to Canada in the gold medal final at the 2010 Games. “We have a good blend of veterans and first-time Olympians and we’re excited about what lies ahead,” said Katey Stone, the US head coach.

BASKETBALL: DeMar DeRozan scored 26 points as the Toronto Raptors halted the Indiana Pacers’ five-game winning streak by handing them a 95-82 defeat. Terrence Ross added 18 points while Kyle Lowry pitched in with 13 points and 14 assists to help the Raptors extend their own victorious sequence to four games. Roy Hibbert led the Pacers with 16 points before fouling out.

BOXING: Dereck Chisora will face unbeaten Ukrainian Andriy Rudenko at the Copper Box Arena in London on February 15. Chisora is expected to put his European heavyweight title on the line against the 30-year-old, who has won all 24 of his fights but has fought just once previously outside his homeland. Chisora scored four straight knockout wins in 2013 and is keen to press his claims for a match against world champion Wladimir Klitschko this year.
