Tennis: Andy Murray will be fit to play at the Wimbledon warm-up event at Queen’s Club after missing the French Open due to a back injury, the world no.2 said yesterday. Murray, the US Open champion and last year’s beaten Wimbledon finalist, was forced to miss the claycourt grand slam after aggra-vating a lower back injury at the Italian Open in May.

Cricket: The head of the international cricket players’ association, Tim May, has resigned citing frus-tration at the global governing body amid allegations of cor-ruption in the game and back-room politicking. The former Aus-tralian offspinner had headed the Federation of International Cric-keters’ Associations since 2005 but said yesterday he had grown disillusioned with the Interna-tional Cricket Council. “Over the past 18 months, I came to the realisation that I was tiring of working in a sport that was in-creasingly at odds with the prin-ciples I respect,” May said.

Speed Skating: Double Olympic short-track speed skating gold medallist Lee Jung-su, of South Korea, will switch to the long track to keep his 2014 Sochi Games dreams alive, his coach said. The 23-year-old, who won the 1,000 and 1,500 metres gold in Vancouver, failed to make the national short track team for Sochi. “Lee Jung-su said he would like to take on a new challenge,” Mo Ji-soo, said.

Rugby Union: Skipper Brian O’Driscoll crossed twice as the British and Irish Lions ran in nine tries to crush an under-strength Western Force 69-17 at Subiaco Oval in their first match in Australia yesterday. The centre, standing in for tour captain Sam Warburton, was joined on the scoresheet by compatriots Jonny Sexton, Jamie Heaslip and Tommy Bowe as the Irish Lions ran rampage. Welsh full-back Leigh Halfpenny had a perfect night with 11 kicks from 11. The hosts were controversially weakened by the resting of several first team players.
