Serie A: TV broadcasters Sky Italia and Mediaset will both have rights to air matches of the eight main teams in Italy’s Serie A over the next three seasons, a source close to the matter said yesterday. Sky Italia, the satellite unit of 21st Century Fox, will also have exclusive rights to broadcast matches of the other 12 teams in Serie A, the source added. The two companies already have rights to Serie A matches but under the new deal Mediaset will broadcast fewer games than under its existing deal and will pay more, while Sky Italia will pay the same amount but will have more matches exclusively.

Bendtner: The end of Nicklas Bendtner’s Arsenal career has been confirmed after the Gunners announced the departures of 11 out of contract players. Denmark striker Bendtner made the last of his 171 Gunners appearances in February, after season-long loan spells at Sunderland and Juventus in recent years. The 26-year-old scored 47 goals since his 2004 arrival as a 16-year-old, but his early potential was never fully realised.

Aguero: Argentine striker Sergio Aguero is out of the World Cup after suffering a muscle tear in the 3-2 victory over Nigeria, a Buenos Aires newspaper reported yesterday. Aguero’s injury would be a major blow to the South Americans’ campaign. “This morning the worst news was confirmed. He has a tear and won’t be able to play any more in the cup,” Clarin said on its website.

Luis Alberto: Liverpool midfielder Luis Alberto has joined La Liga side Malaga on a season-long loan, the Premier League club said yesterday. Spaniard Alberto, 21, arrived on Merseyside from Sevilla last season, but only made 12 appearances in all competitions.

City Stadium: Manchester City have announced a further expansion of the Etihad Stadium, which will take the total capacity to a little over 55,000. The plans revealed on Thursday will add a further three rows of seats at the pitchside level, and come in addition to the work already under way to add 6,000 seats to the South Stand.
