Friendly: Chile will play Nor-thern Ireland in Valparaiso on June 4 as part of their preparations for the World Cup later that month. Chile are in Group B with Spain, the Netherlands and Australia, playing their opening match against the Australians on June 13 in Cuiaba.

Pizarro: Fiorentina midfielder David Pizarro was left out as Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli named a squad of 19 foreign-based players for next month’s World Cup warm-up away to Germany. Argentine Sampaoli also omitted Miiko Albornoz, who made his debut in last month’s 4-0 win over Costa Rica.

A-League: Wellington Phoenix moved up to third with a 4-1 win away to Central Coast Mariners, yesterday. The New Zealanders trailed at half-time to Bernie Ibini-Isei’s goal. However, Kenny Cun-ningham’s goal on 47 minutes gave them a real lift and two quickfire efforts from Carlos Hernandez (64) and Stijn Huysegems (65) put them 3-1 ahead. Substitute Jeremy Brockie added a fourth four minutes after coming on.

Szczesny: Arsenal have repri-manded goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny for his offensive gesture when leaving the pitch after being sent off in the 2-0 defeat against Bayern Munich on Wednesday. The Poland international was shown a red card after tripping Arjen Robben in the box and made an obscene gesture before leaving the pitch.

Hooiveld: Southampton will be without defender Jos Hooiveld for today’s Premier League game at West Ham. The Dutchman suffered an eye injury in training on Wednesday and has been ruled out for the encounter at Upton Park.

Butland: Leeds have signed Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland on loan until the end of the season. United boss Brian McDermott has moved into the emergency loan window with first-choice Paddy Kenny struggling with injury.
